The Fresh Start Program will offer selected University of Alberta students who have been Required to Withdraw an alternate means to re-establish satisfactory academic standing and regain eligibility for admission or readmission to a faculty at the University of Alberta. (University of Alberta 2010-2011 calendar 14.5 and 220.5)

Students may not apply directly for admission to the Fresh Start Program. Students must be recommended by their faculty for admission to the Fresh Start Program. Students who are accepted into the Fresh Start Program will be permitted to remain on campus and register in Open Studies Fresh Start Program for one Fall/Winter term immediately following assessment of  unsatisfactory standing and being Required to Withdraw from a faculty.

Completion of the Fresh Start Program does not guarantee admission or readmission to any particular faculty at the University of Alberta. Students may enroll in the Fresh Start Program one time only.

Faculties participating in the Fresh Start Program include: Agricultural, Life and Environmental Sciences; Arts; Education; Engineering; Faculte Saint-Jean; Native Studies; Nursing; Physical Education and Recreation; and Science.

The Fresh Start Program is coordinated by the Office of the Dean of Students
